State Educational Resource and information Center, known as SERIC Library is a wing of DSERT, SERIC library was established on 21.8.1891 vide the Government order No. C.No. 78 dated 21.8.1891 approved by the Mysore Maharaja, His Highness the Chamaraja Wodeyar at Mysore as “ State Educational Library and Museum",is the only of its kind in the country. SERIC Library has milestones of progress from the 1891-2016 .

1895 | Purchase of Magic lantern and slides |
1900 | Printed catalogue of Books published |
1908 | Presentation of Educational Books and Materials by Board of Education, England |
1910 | Educational Museum Shifted to Seshadri Iyer Memorial hall Bangalore |
1914-15 | Library opened to Public . Two public Libraries opened at Mysore and Bangalore and 255 books of educational Library were donated to public Libraries to start as nucleus in collection. |
1918 | 1. Classification and re-cataloguing of Books and reading Materials 2. Librarian re-designated as Librarian and General Editor of departmental Publications |
1922 | Circulation of Educational journals among inspecting Officers of each district |
1932-34 | Books on various subjects added and circulated among officers in various district |
1942 | 172 Books transferred to Mythic Society, bangalore |
1948 | Sri vedrathana, a Departmental officer deputed to Delhi for Library Training under Dr. S R Ranganathan, father of Library Science. |
1955 | Sri N S Hirannayya IAS, DPI, proposed reorganization of School Library System under Educational Library and Shifted to Bangalore |
1957 | Educational Library renamed as Mysore State Educational Library (MSEL) |
1958 | 1. MSEL established in New public offices 2. Open access system started |
1962 | Shifted into rented building at Sheshadripuram |
1966 | Sir N D Bagari, Librarian if Karnataka State Educational Library was appointed as State Librarian. |
1970 | 1. Library building Committee for Karnataka State Educational Library under the chairmanship of sri B V narayan Reddy,with sri V Suryaprakash Librarian as Secretary constituted. 2. UNESCO club installed and its 25th anniversary celebrated |
1972 | Four Branch Libraries of Karnataka State Educational Library opened in Bangalore City |
1975 | 1. Foundation stone for Karnataka State Educational Library laid by Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy.Education Minister 2. Best Readers Competition started |
1979 | Special competition introduced in the international year of the child. |
1984 | 1. National Book week celebrations started 2. New building of Karnataka State Educational Library opened by Shri ramkrishna Hegde Hon’ble Chief Minister; Shri B Rachaiah Education Minister presided over. 3. Shri. V Suryaprakash, Librarian Karnataka State Educational Library appointed as Director of Public Libraries Karnataka. |
1985 | NCERT corner inaugurated by shri M Raghupathy Minister for Education. |
1987 | Shri. V Suryaprakash, Librarian Karnataka State Educational Library, deputed to England for training in preservation of reading material. |
1989 | 1. PUSTAKALAYA- Quarterly News letter started 2. Makkala vachakara Koota Readers club started. |
1990 | 21.8.1990Library Birth Centenary year celebration inaugurated by Shri K.H. Ranganath, Education Minister. |
1991 | 21.8.1991 Centenary celebration inaugurated by Shri Veerappa Moily Education Minister with Dr. raja Ramanna as Chief guest. |
1992 | Karnataka State Educational Library renamed as STATE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES and INFORMATION CENTER (SERIC) |
1993 | 1.To establish District level educational Libraries and to develop SERIC library Government sanctioned Rs 24 lakhs 2.SERIC Librarian Shri V. Suryaprakash got retired form Government Service. 3.Shri Desai Goudar Librarian, taken over charge of the library |
1993-2014 | All the qualified Librarians got retired from SERIC |
21-8-2016 | SERIC Library completed 125 years. |
Present Scenario:
Efforts and contributions by Great Founders His Highness Shri Chamraja Wodeyar, Maharaja of Mysore and Shri H.J. Bhabha, Secretary, Department of Education, Mysore, SERIC Library was a central activity place in the Karnataka School Education system.
Presently Library is located at Sheshadripuram in a independant specious premises with more than 1,40,000 books, which comprises education related reports, Dictionaries, Encyclopedia gazetteers Books on Education Science Mathematics, sociology HistoryArt Etc. Library is also rich in Kannda English Fiction and it has seprate Children Literature wing. Library is specificaly rich in antique, rare books from the time of its inception 1891.
Presently SERIC Library is under process of Library Automation , Library management software is used to organise the data for the easy retrival of the information.
