NATIONAL TALENT SEARCH EXAMINATION (FOR CLASS 8th)
SCHEME DETAILS: The main purpose of this scheme is to identify talented students at the end of Class VIII and to give them financial assistance towards getting the best possible education, so that talent may develop and they may serve the country well.
This Examination is conducted at two phases ,
FIRST PHASE: The Department of State Educational Research and Training shall hold the State Level Examination in the first phase in November at Identified centers all over the State .
ELIGIBILITY:Any regular student of 8th Standard shall be eligible to appear in the National Talent Search Examination.
Eligibility marks to apply:55% for General and 45% for SC/ST Candidates, in 7th Standard Annual Examination.
First Level Examination consists of Two Papers.
(A) GENERAL MENTAL ABILITY TEST (GMAT): This paper consists of items on reasoning, analysis and synthesis etc. Total 90 Questions.
(B)SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST: (S.A.T) consists of 90 questions. Out of which 35 questions will be in Social Science which include History, Geography Civics and Economics 35 questions in Basic Science including Physics, Chemistry and Biology. 20 questions from Mathematics. All the 8 subjects are compulsory. Syllabus For NTSE Examination: 7th Standard full portion & 8th Standard First term Portion.
SECOND PHASE (NATIONAL LEVEL): The examination will be conducted by NCERT, New Delhi for those who qualify on the basis of written test in the First Phase, which will be held at R.V.Girls High School, Jayanagar, Bangalore-11. It will be notified by NCERT in all the leading News Papers.
THE INTERVIEW: The interview will be held at RIE Mysore , for the selected candidates who qualify on the basis of the written test in the Second Phase of the Examination.
1.Application fee for General Category is Rs.25/- only, Candidates belonging to SC/ST are exempted from the payment of application fee.
2.There is no Provision to Change the Examinatioin Centre.
3.The application of ineligible Candidates shall be cancelled at any stage.
4 Each Candidate should submit two passport size attested photographs along with the application.
5.Applications are available at the BEOs Offices and at DSERT website during the month of August. The filled in application form has to be sent to the concerned Centre Superintendent (BEO) for the Examination and should not be sent to DSERT Directly. 6.Chief Superintendents of the examination centre should give proper acknowledgement to the candidates for having received the application form.
The Admission Card indicating the Register Number, Place of Examination Centre, will be issued by the Examination Chief Superintendent.
Special Encouragement by Government of Karnataka
The candidates who are selected at the State level but not at the National level will be awarded a scholarship of Rs.200/- p.m. for two years from Karnataka State Student Welfare Fund.
CONTINUANCE OF THE AWARD;
Continuance of Scholarship shall be subject to the maintenance of such academic excellence as may be prescribed by the NCERT from time to time. The rate of scholarship at any stage and rules are subject to change which will be binding on awardees.
The award of scholarship shall further be governed by the following conditions and also by those guidelines laid down by the NCERT from time to time.
NOTE TO SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEES;
SCHOLARSHIP; The scholarship shall be available for their future studies and subsequently after suitable revalidation at terminal stage up to the Doctorate level in Basic and Social Sciences including Commerce and up to the second degree (Post-Graduate) level in Engineering and Medicine.
EXISTING RATE OF SCHOLARSHIPS AT DIFFERENT LEVELS;

Special Reservation for Physically challenged students:
From the year 2007-08, 3% seats are reserved for physically challenged group children, 1% for Visual impaired, 1% for Hearing impaired and 1% for other disabilities.
The medical certificate in the prescribed form issued in their favor signed by the specialists of the concerned ability. The medial certificate should be countersigned by the District Surgeon concerned. Locomotor Disability the loss of disability should be 40% or more than that.
The scheme proposed by the MHRD is to award scholarship to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections to arrest their drop outs and to encourage them to continue their studies till class XII.
This examination is conducted in one phase ie., at the state level. The Department of State Education Research and Training will conduct written examination at state level .
ELIGIBILITY: Students of Govt. Local body and Private Aided High Schools are eligible to appear for the examination.
This examination consists of two tests.

This paper is confined to GMAT consisting of 90 compulsory objective questions for 90 marks. This paper consists of items of questions on reasoning analysis & synthesis etc.,
B) Scholastic Ability Test(SAT): Consists of 90 questions out of which 35 questions from Basic science, 35 questions from Social Science and 20 questions from Mathematics.
Applications are available at the BEOs Offices and DSERT website. The filled in application form has to be sent to the concerned centre superintendent(BEO) for the examination and should not be sent to DSERT directly .Applications are also available at DSERT WEB SITE. http://dsert.kar.nic.in
The admission card indicating the Reg. No, place of examination centre and time will be issued from the Chief Superintendent .
Special encouragement from Ministry of Human resource development.
The candidates who are selected at the state level will be awarded a scholarship of Rs.500/-p.m from 9th std. to II P.U.C. level for a span of four years.

The Scholarships awarded by the MHRD will be subject to the maintenance of academic excellence as may be prescribed the conditions shown below.
