SCHEME DETAILS: The main purpose of this scheme is to identify talented students in Class X and to give them financial assistance towards getting the best possible education, So that talent may develop and they may serve the country well.
ELIGIBILITY: Any regular student of 10th Standard (State/CBSE/ICSE syllabus) shall be eligible to appear in the National Talent Search Examination.
This Examination is conducted at Two phases,1. First phase (State Level) 2. Second phase (National Level)
FIRST PHASE (State Level): The Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT) shall hold the State Level(First Phase) Examination every year usually in the month of November in all the Educational blocks (taluks) all over the States.
First Level Examination consists of Three Papers.
Paper-I GENERAL MENTAL ABILITY TEST (GMAT): This paper consists of items on reasoning, analysis and synthesis / pictorial, numerical, descriptive etc. Total 50 Questions.
Paper-II ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPRAHENSION TET (L.C.T) (a): This Paper consists of items to test the English language comprehension .Total 50 questions of 50 marks.
Paper-III SCHOLASTIC APPTITUDE TEST (S.A.T) (b): Consists of 100 questions. Out of which 40 questions will be in Social Science which includes History, Geography, Civics and Economics, 40 questions in General Science including Physics, Chemistry and Biology, 20 questions from Mathematics.
Syllabus for NTSE Examination: There is no fixed Syllabus. The Questions will be to the level of 10th Standard. It includes State Govt/ICSE/CBSE 10th Standard syllabus and text books.
SECOND PHASE (NATIONAL LEVEL): This examination will be conducted by NCERT New Delhi in May every year in Bangalore for those who qualify in first phase (state level)on the basis of written test. It will be notified by NCERT in all the leading News Papers.
Special Encouragement by Government of Karnataka
The candidates who are selected at the State level but not at the National level will be awarded a scholarship of Rs.2000 per year, for two years from Karnataka State Student Welfare Fund.(Depending on the availability of funds only)
CONTINUANCE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
Continuance of Scholarship shall be subject to the maintenance of such academic excellence as may be prescribed by the NCERT from time to time. At present the amount of scholarship details as follows.

Special Reservation for Physically challenged students:
From the year 2007-08, 3% seats are reserved for physically challenged group children, 1% for Visual impaired, 1% for Hearing impaired and 1% for other disabilities. The medical certificate in the prescribed format issued in their favour signed by the specialists of the concerned ability. The medical certificate should be countersigned by the District Surgeon concerned. The level of disability should be 40% or more than that.

The scheme proposed by the MHRD is to award scholarship to meritorious students of 8th standard belonging to economically weaker sections to arrest their drop outs and to encourage them to continue their studies till class XII.
This examination is conduct in one phase i.e., at the state level. The Department of State Education Research and Training will (DSERT) conduct written examination at state level.
ELIGIBILITY: Students of Govt., Local body and Govt Aided Private School students are eligible to appear for the examination.(Students of KendrIya Vidyalaya, Navodaya and any other residential Schools run by Central or State Govt are not eligible)
This examination consists of two papers.
A) Paper 1 : General Mental Ability Test (GMAT):
This paper is confined to GMAT consisting of 90 compulsory multiple choice objective questions for 90 marks. This paper consists of items of questions on reasoning, analysis & synthesis, figurative, numerical, descriptive etc.
B) Paper 2: Scholastic Aptitude Test(SAT):
Consists of 90 multiple choice objective type questions out of which 35 questions from General Science , 35 questions from Social Science and 20 questions from Mathematics.
The candidates who are selected based on the district quota, category and the marks scored in the Examination will be awarded a scholarship of Rs.500/-p.m from 9th std To 2nd P.U.C. For a span of four years.
Continuance of the scholarship:
The continuation of awarded Scholarship by the MHRD will be the maintenance of academic excellence as may be prescribed the conditions shown below.
